An Urban Legend: John Hagee's Unblical Doctrine

If you browse through a variety of web sites, you will find a number of them accusing him of teaching unbiblical doctrine. The following are the beliefs that Pastor Hagee has been accused of teaching and/or believing. I will provide evidence that these beliefs are not associated with Pastor Hagee at all.

Myth #1: John Hagee teaches prosperity to the extent that all Christians should be financially wealthy as long as they continue to walk in obedience to the Lord.

• Fact: John Hagee has specifically stated in writing:

We can find no evidence in the Bible to indicate that God's will is for everyone to be wealthy, or that there is something wrong with Christians who do not have many material possessions. [www.sacornerstone.com]

Myth #2:

John Hagee promotes positive confession. As quoted from the Christian Research Institute:

Along with the prosperity message, Hagee accepts and promotes the doctrine of positive confession — a foundational teaching of the Faith movement which maintains that Christians can speak (i.e., positively confess) physical realities into existence as long as the believer exercises enough faith to accompany his or her verbal confession.[www.equip.org]

• Fact: If this was the case, why would John Hagee make a statement such as the following?:

There are two extremes to the faith message. Some preach that God never heals, which is wrong. Others preach that God heals every time, which is also wrong. God responds to our faith, but there is no "magic formula" that insures God will answer our prayers exactly as we want. God is not a cosmic bellhop that we can command to do our will. The purpose of prayer is to change us so that we want to do His will.[www.jhm.org]

Myth #3: John Hagee teaches Dual Covenant Theory, or that the Jewish people can be saved without conversion.

• Fact: Absolutely not! As quoted from John Hagee to the Jerusalem Post:

In a statement to the Post, the Texas-based televangelist Hagee said that neither he nor Southern Baptist pastor Falwell "believe or teach Dual Covenant." [www.jpost.com]
