United States, Help Israel or Get Out of the Way!

Today, a major terrorist plot was thwarted:

British authorities said Thursday they thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up 10 aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, averting what police described as "mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

Congratulations to those who were vigilant in preventing a major catastrophe from occurring. We need to continue to focus on the terrorist threats currently being directed against us.

We need to stop our ignorance and allow Israel to do their job. In fact, to a certain extent, Israel is doing a good part of the job for us. If you recall, it was the Hezbollah organization that terrorized us by the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon that killed 200 Americans and the 1996 Khobar Towers attack in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 Americans and wounded more than 300. When you think about this, it is awfully nice for the Israelis to go after the terrorists that we should be following up on. Heck, for the matter, we should be assisting Israel in hunting down the Hezbollah terrorists. Instead, it appears that our country has chosen to go down the politically correct road:

The White House said Wednesday neither Israel nor Hezbollah should escalate their month-old war, as Israel decided to widen its ground invasion in southern Lebanon.

White House press secretary Tony Snow said the U.S. message was for both sides, though his remarks came after Israel's Security Cabinet voted to expand the war effort in an attempt to deal further blows to Hezbollah.

I would like to also include the following quote from a commentary which pretty much summarizes how much of the world feels about Israel defending themselves:

The Israeli decision to respond forcefully to Hezbollah's assault on its soldiers and its citizens has been met with near-universal condemnation. The world is a lot more comfortable with an Israel that does not fight back. And so are a lot of Jews. Steven Spielberg's movie "Munich" made the argument that when Israel kills terrorists it risks becoming like the terrorists.

Apparently, Israel had no choice, but to change its offensive tactic. Take a look at the following quote from the Hannity and Colmes show aired yesterday:

COLMES: You know, there's talk of a cease-fire agreement would have 15,000 Lebanese troops on the southern border. It would also have kind of a prisoner exchange, U.N. peacekeeping forces, as well. Shouldn't we be pushing for that, shouldn't that be the way to go, and why shouldn't we not push further, harder to make this happen as quickly as possible?

NORTH: Well, Alan, what's happened, of course, and the reason why Bill Hemmer is reporting on this new offensive is because of the failure of the United Nations to come up with a strong resolution providing for a powerful multinational force. That's what drove the decision to go in today. They'd been hoping for a well-armed international intervention force to enter south Lebanon.

Now I would think that our nation's leaders were aware that the reason for the change in Israelis' offensive is because the United Nations failed to do their part in providing a strong multinational force to assist in disarming the Hezbollah. With this problem on hand, what is Israel supposed to do? I guess the rest of the world actually believes that Israel just needs to lay down their weapons and let the enemies come in and take over and kill as many people as possible.

For a moment, lets revisit our president's criticism of Israel's change of strategy. If you recall, President Bush faced a similar situation back in 2003 when we failed to get a U.N. endorsement for the invasion of Iraq. I realize that in this situation, we had evidence of Saddam Hussein possessing weapons of mass destruction. I understand all that, but, how is it that Israel, a country trying to defend itself from a real and imminent threat, needs to scale back on their offense when our president not once suggested that we attack Iraq in a 'conservative' fashion? If Israel is to be condemned for defending itself, how much more should we be condemned for being in Iraq? I think it is great that we are trying to thwart the spread of terrorism into Iraq from countries such as Iran. It is important that we do this. But at the same time, we need to keep our mouths shut and allow Israel defeat the terrorists that have attack us as well. In fact, it appears that the Hezbollah has sleeper cells here in the United States and can attack multiple cities at the same time, at any given moment.

Now, instead of condemning Israel for fighting the terrorists, how about praying for the peace of Jerusalem.
