"The Blogs the Borg - Six of One Half Dozen of the Other" by Rev Michael Bresciani

What comes of carefully scrutinizing internet blogs besides a flaming headache has become more apparent and predictable then I thought possible only a few short pre-blog years ago.

Specialized blogs from internet SEO sites to motorcycle enthusiast’s blogs are interesting only if you are interested in those particular topics, boring if you’re not.

Trying to keep my finger on the pulse of America’s social and political trends has forced me to stick close to blogs on news, politics, conservative and liberal rants and religion. Even in these limited categories there are upwards of a ka-zillion blogs and with newbies popping up daily there is no end in sight. No insult intended to the blind or to the decent blog sites but the blind need never fear that they have missed something important.

I have indeed come across a few remarkably well pointed sites that could actually add something to your knowledge that might be described as useful. These unusual species of blogs are all too often the exceptions that make the rule.

Star Trek creator the late Gene Roddenberry invented a menacing picture of a race of people bent on assimilating whole civilizations and subjecting them to something known as the collective. All the knowledge and culture of each race is assimilated and blended with the other civilizations from around Roddenberry’s imaginary inhabited universe. The Borg seem bent on making what looks all too much like a universal blog a pervasive and inescapable part of everyone’s future.

Sailing around endless internet blogs is to me all too much like being assimilated by the Borg. Holding and voicing an opinion may be one of the only American freedoms that are not now threatened, but perhaps they should be…in my opinion.

I’m sure it is safe to conclude that having a head full of everyone else’s thoughts with no way to shut them off would be some form of torture. Selecting leaders must be wisdoms way of keeping billions of people from trying to solve a problem from billions of directions. Sounds more like war than progress.

One trend is impossible to miss. A clear distinction can be seen between the liberal and conservative blogs that speaks to reaction rather than content. In the conservative blog references are made to other sources such as the constitution, the bill of rights, the Bible particular statesmen etc. Liberal sources of reference usually end with the blogger alone and that not to happily.

Another alarming trend impossible to miss is resorting to character assassination and denigration when all else fails. The recent and bewildering tragedy at Virginia Tech is one example.

When former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that the tragedy was a direct byproduct of a liberal and permissive society he was quickly labeled a quack and cyber-tarred and feathered in the blogs.

Progressive (liberals) who generally ascribe to the idea that personal morality does not conflict with public service were quick to use Mr. Gingrich’s record of divorce against him. Words like “hypocrisy” and phrases like “double standard” may not be vitriolic expletives but they don’t need to be to bring even the weakest conscience under conviction. Consistency is not one of the paragons of the progressive movement.

No big argument needed here only the question of whether left bloggers ever took simple math 101. Let’s see. The end product of a situational ethics anything goes society is what? Oh that’s it…anything goes. No disrespect intended to the victims VA. Tech. but hasn’t “anything goes been making its debut from Columbine to VA. Tech and couldn’t one or more of the elements Gingrich says are the causes actually be responsible in whole or part?

Let’s do a little more math. Could Cho Seung-Hui the perpetrator of the Virginia Tech massacre possibly chosen another course of action if he were guided by something other than the “anything goes” dictates of his own mind? Could faith in God, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, respect for life, ethics courses, common sense or just about anything other than his own mindset have changed the course of events? My simple math says yes to every question. Liberal bloggers come to an entirely different conclusion about both the alternate outcome and the people who suggest it.

Perhaps the most disconcerting but constantly produced side effect of liberal bloggers that I’ve seen in years worth of observation is the unfailing final resort to profanity and expletives when all else fails. When the best wisdom can no longer be refuted the character of the blogger is attacked. In an all out last ditch effort, leftists seem to fall back into profanity and name calling.

The right bloggers only recourse to this oft repeated sudden decent from intelligent discourse to childish name calling is perhaps equally childish but nevertheless effective I’m speaking namely of “sticks and stones will break my bones but…”

I needn’t cite specific examples because of the ka-zillion blogs that are using this tactic there are scarce few I would advise a peace loving and relatively normal person to visit. In my personal ethical economy that would be wholesale unkindness. It would be like inviting the American public to line up for voluntary assimilation into the Borg collective.

Years of checking the blogs has helped me to understand the meaning of words penned by Statesmen Cullen Hightower who said “Wisdom is what’s left after we’ve run out of personal opinions.”

EMOTIONAL THERAPISTS

Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Proverbs 16: 24
King James Version

I went to my doctor a couple of days ago and he said that my arthritis had gotten worse and that I have severe degenerative osteoarthritis in both legs and in my back. He prescribed a strong pain medicine for me and yesterday I received a call from a nurse at a home health care center. The nurse said the doctor had ordered physical therapists to come to my home and help me do exercises. The nurse also said that the doctor had ordered a wheelchair for the days when the pain is overwhelming and to use in case I have to evacuate to a shelter during hurricane season.

As I was praying this morning and asking God what He wanted me to write for todays devotional, He brought this verse to my mind. Just as we need physical therapists to help us when we are unable to do the exercises alone, we need emotional therapists to help us when we are unable to bear the pain and heartaches alone. The Bible says Bear ye one anothers burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.(Galatians 6:2) We need to be praying for and encouraging people who are in pain emotionally. I think all of us know someone who needs a shot of encouragement daily, sometimes hourly. A lot of the time, we are the ones who need to be encouraged.

It is wonderful that we have social workers, mental health therapists and psychiatrists but just seeing them for an hour is not enough. There are times when we need someone to put us in an emotional wheelchair and stay with us until the horror, terror, pain and heartaches arent so overwhelming. I think there are times in every persons life if he or she would be honest that when people say criticizing, judgmental and sarcastic words to him or her that the pain becomes overwhelming. It is then that the person needs an emotional therapist and wheelchair until the hurt goes away. We need each other on a daily basis.

Thank God that we have an emotional therapist and emotional wheelchair who is always with us and His name is Jesus. Thank God that one day the Saviour of the world walked that long and lonely road to the cross of Calvary and there allowed them to pound those spikes into His hands. He died an agonizing and cruel for us so that we can be saved. Not only is Jesus our Saviour, He is also the great Physician. He doesnt treat just one area of our lives; He treats everything. If you are hurting today, allow Jesus to comfort and encourage you. He will never leave you, not even for one minute.

Boiling Hot Excrement

By Stephen Yulish Ph.D.

People often ask me where I get the ideas for my articles. I tell them that the Holy Spirit whispers in my ear. They often look at me askance.

Well this morning was a perfect example. The Lord reminded me of a statement that an Orthodox Rabbi said to me years ago. He was a member of Aish Hatorah in Jerusalem, an organization that tries to bring Jews back to their roots so to speak. I had told him that while I now believed that Jesus (Yeshua) was the Messiah and was God, I still considered myself a Jew. He disagreed and we argued back and forth for weeks as all Jews love to do. That should have been proof enough for him but it wasn't. Before I go any further let me say that while I love and serve Yeshua that does not mean I have to deny my Jewishness. Paul did not. See 2 Corinthians 11:22-23 or Romans 11:1. Sure there is no Jew nor Gentile in Christ and we are all one new man but I still have Jewish flesh. More later.

Well the rabbi finally gave in and told me that while I was still a Jew I would spend eternity in boiling excrement for believing in Yeshua. I later found out that it says this in the Talmud, b.gittin 57a. As Paul said in Philippians 3:4-8, while I was a Jew of the Jews, all of those things now count as rubbish in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus the Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things in order that may gain Christ.

I have lost family and friends. I have lost material things and my health but I do count them all as rubbish in view of gaining Christ.

Where am I going with all this rambling? I found a video this morning which you can find after my article. It was a news program in Israel, in Hebrew, about Messianic Jews in Israel. I cried when I watched it. These Jewish believers must have been like the early believers 2000 years ago.

You must cut them some slack about what they say about Christians. They are living in hostile territory amongst unbelievers. They see many so called Christians including the Vatican, World Council of Churches and other liberal denominations siding with the Palestinians. They see other Christians saying that they are now Israel. They circumcise their children as a tradition as is putting up a Mezuzah (I have one on my door) not as a religious symbol. Their new blood covenant is now with Jesus as is mine.

Watch the Israeli interviewer refer to Jesus as Yeshu not Yeshua. Yeshu is an Hebrew acronym which means 'may his name be blotted out'! In another place, an Orthodox Rabbi refers to Yeshua as Yoshke the bastard. My dear sweet Jewish mother, when seeing a statue of Jesus on some Catholic's lawn yelled out "Yoshke Pondra!" This refers to an infamous Jewish book which labeled Jesus as the bastard son of Mary and a Roman centurion. I kid you not. Sad, but see what these poor Israeli believers have to live with. I have felt persecution but nothing like these people. I too am told by Christians that I am too Jewish and by Jews that I am too Christian. Sue me!

This video gives you a glimpse into the time when as Paul wrote in Romans

11:26 all Israel will be saved. Finally, don't hate the traditional Jews.

God gave them a spirit of stupor, Romans 11:8, and they know not what they do. Forgive them their trespasses as God commands us to do,Matthew 6:14.

Now I know why the Holy Spirit reminded me of that boiling excrement!

Come quickly Lord Jesus!

IT'S ALWAYS HERE by Joanne Lowe

“But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.  And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.  And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?  Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!”

 Matthew 8: 22 - 27
King James Version

Hurricane season will be here next month and already they are telling us to start making preparations.  They are talking about holding meetings to discuss and plan where the people who are evicted can go to take shelter should a hurricane make landfall where I live.  When the hurricanes are threatening where we live we can track their progress on a map.  Should the hurricanes actually make landfall we will have had time to stock up on candles, flashlights, batteries, water and ice that will hopefully last until the water and power are restored.

We have another kind of hurricane in our lives that is always here with us.  It is more devastating and deadlier than the hurricanes of nature that might make landfall where we live.  This hurricane has such magnitude when it makes landfall in our hearts that no amount of planning or fleeing to temporary shelters can help.  This hurricane has many things associated with it and the only thing that can help with this horrible assault is the protection and shelter of the love of Jesus.

This hurricane of life that attacks and threatens us, sometimes daily, makes its deadly landfall in the center of our hearts and it causes conflict in our homes, our families and in our relationships with other people.  This hurricane has high waves of destruction and the storm surge has the elements of divorce, suicidal thoughts, anger, resentment, bitterness, jealousy, hatred, criticism, sarcasm, loneliness and unforgiveness.

There are no agencies that can help us and no amount of federal aid can help us rebuild and put our lives and hearts together again.  The Red Cross was so gracious and kind to deliver meals two times a day to our homes when our power and lights were off after a hurricane landed two years ago.  However only Jesus can take away all the horror and the devastation of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken lives when attacked by these strong overwhelming and crippling storms of life.  When people say cruel words to us, it is more devastating than the storm surge of a hurricane of nature.

While some people tragically die from the hurricanes that make landfall where they live, if they have made a heart commitment to Jesus and asked Him to forgive them of their sins and come into their hearts to be their personal Saviour then they are assured of a home in heaven and will live for all eternity with Jesus.  The reason that the hurricane which floods our hearts is deadlier than the hurricanes of nature is that if we allow all these things to remain in our hearts then we are not in right standing with Jesus and we are breaking His heart.

We may have acknowledged that Jesus is the Saviour of the world and may have even made a heart commitment to Him and are saved but we have allowed these things that bring shame to our precious Saviour to remain in our hearts and nothing that defiles will ever enter into heaven.  If you have any of these deadly elements in your heart today, run as fast as you can into the waiting and loving arms of Jesus and ask Him to forgive you and help you to walk in kindness and unconditional love for others as He has commanded us to do.

If your heart is breaking today, tell Jesus all about it.  He already knows but He wants you to come to Him and talk to Him about it.  That is all prayer really is; having a conversation with the one who loves you so much that He died for you.  He proved how much He loves you when He allowed them to crucify Him on the cross of torture.  What are you doing to prove to Jesus that you love Him?  Are you making Him happy or are you making Him sad?  Does He come first in your life before anyone or anything?  Thank God for Jesus, the restorer of broken hearts, broken homes and broken lives!

Inscribed to God Jesus Christ

By Stephen Yulish

It never ceases to amaze me how much God listens to our prayers and petitions. He is right there beside us but we often have no clue. I have been having a friendly discussion with a man who calls himself a fellow Christian yet refuses to believe that Jesus is equal to the Father. I have told him that he is therefore either a Jehovah’s Witness or maybe a Mormon. He told me that he loves Jesus and was insulted that I called him a JW or a Mormon. I asked him how he could call himself a follower of Christ, i.e. a Christian, and not believe that Christ is equal to Jehovah or Yahweh?

He would quote me from John 14 where Jesus said that He would petition the Father. When I showed him John 10:30, 38 where Jesus said me and the Father are one, he did not listen. He quoted me from the New Jerusalem Bible and from Harper’s Bible and other so called scholarly works which seemed to question the equality of Jesus to the Father. He tried to tell me that he had seen programs on the History and the Discovery Channels that supported his beliefs. He quoted the theologian Hans Kung and even used his Professor of New Testament many, many years ago in college who had taught him that Jesus was a prophet and God’s only son but was not equal to the Father.

When he tried to tell me that many of Jesus sayings were similar to those of the Essenes and that He therefore might have learned from them, I nearly lost it. I told him that Jesus was God and therefore could not learn anything from the Essenes or anybody else. He scoffed.

I became frustrated and finally told him that the Holy Spirit would have to reveal the truth to him. We agreed to disagree.

Then I picked up my copy of the latest issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, March/April 2007, vol. 33, no.2 and found the article, Inscribed to God Jesus Christ.

The article tells about the recent discovery of an early Christian prayer hall under the prison in Megiddo in Northern Israel. The prison needed more room so they began excavating. When they found archaeological remains, they called in the Israeli Antiquities Authority. They discovered the remains of the earliest prayer hall ever discovered in the Holy Land.

It was dated to the first half of the 3rd Century around 230 AD. Very few prayer halls or churches have been discovered anywhere in the Middle East before the Church became a part of the Roman Empire under Constantine a hundred years or so later.

The find was actually near the ancient Jewish village of Kfar Othnay which is mentioned in the Jewish Mishnah and also near the outpost of two Roman legions. They found elaborate mosaic plaques and floor designs. They found an early Christian design of two fish facing one another. The Greek word for fish is ichthys whose letters spell out, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. More importantly they found the four sides of what appeared to be an offering, communion, or Eucharist table. Nearby, they found an inscription which said, “The God loving Akeptuous has offered the table to God Jesus Christ as a memorial.”

This is the earliest inscription found in Israel and perhaps anywhere, that mentions Jesus Christ. And, even more significantly, to describe Him as God shows that the early followers of Christ thought of Him as God.

Historians and Bible scholars have tried to tell us that his early followers did not think of him of God and that this belief was not added until later at the Council of Nicea and others under Constantine. My friend also tried to use those same arguments but this find silenced him.

To God Jesus Christ says it all.

Finally, isn’t it sad that this tremendous archaeological find did not get the attention that the scandalous Lost Tomb of Jesus did? Of course, we know the reason for this. The Lost Tomb purported to say that Jesus was not God was not resurrected and married Mary Magdelene while this find showed that Jesus Christ was thought of as God by His early followers. The media always seems to choose blasphemy over truth. It sells better.

Paying the price for appeasement

Paying the price for appeasement by summer

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards' capture-at-gunpoint of 15 British sailors in the waters off the Iraqi coast last week was a brazen act in every respect. But, it was only the latest in the long chain of the Iranian regime's outlaw behavior over the past two decades.

This act of belligerence, just before the United Nations Security Council adopted a second sanction resolution against Tehran, was a reminder that no matter how generous the incentives and how willing the gullible Europeans to offer them, Tehran is not about to abandon its nuclear weapons program, which it considers to be indispensable to its strategic survival.

And how have the British government reacted so far? Quite pathetic to say the least, still holding out the hope that it could convince the mullahs to release the captives through negotiations. Meanwhile, the sailors continue to "confess" and "write letters of apology."

Neither the Iranian regime's bullying nor United Kingdom's feeble response, however, was atypical. In fact, every time the mullahs are caught red handed the ever-appeasing Europeans have merely slapped the turbaned despots on the wrist.

Flash back August 2002: when the Iranian opposition coalition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), revealed Tehran's 18-year secret nuclear program, what did the Europeans do? They offered to maintain the principal Iranian opposition group, the People's Mojahedin (PMOI) on their terrorist watch list in return for the mullahs' compliance.

Even after the Security Council's watered-downed and long-overdue resolution passed last Saturday, the European Union's foreign policy chief Javier Solana said he could not wait to begin talks with his Iranian counterpart. "The European Union wants a better, closer relationship with Iran," insisted Solana. How closer could one get with a pariah state which brutalizes its own citizens, incites carnage in neighboring Iraq, foments conflict in the fertile crescent, pursues nuclear and WMD weapons and abducts coalition soldiers in broad daylight?

Too bad Neville Chamberlain did not live to see his European colleagues today. He would have felt vindicated. During his time, Czechoslovakia was the price tag for "peace in our time." Today, 70 million Iranians and their resistance movement is the sacrificial lamb in the Franco-British-led European game of brinksmanship with the conniving mullahs of Tehran.

Case in point: In a landmark ruing on December 12, 2006, Europe's second highest court, the Court of the First Instance in Luxembourg, overturned the European Union's decision to brand the principal Iranian opposition movement, the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), as terrorist.

In its 41-page ruling, the Court also affirmed that, 'the PMOI was founded in 1965 and set itself the objective of replacing the regime of the Shah of Iran, then the mullahs' regime, by a democracy.".

You would think that with such a clear ruling, the EU would move swiftly to undo an act that had been politically motivated in the first place. Not so! Some officials, especially in Britain, argued that the removal of the PMOI from the list would send the theocrats ruling Iran that European policy had shifted to regime change, since the PMOI is the most viable actor for change in Iran.

By refusing to comply with the ruling of one of its own institutions and insisting that it would maintain the PMOI on its blacklist, the EU made a mockery of the rule of law. This, of course, is not unique to the Europeans. In 1997, the U.S. State Department decided, as acknowledged by then-Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Martyn Indyk, to send "a signal" of the U.S.'s desire for rapprochement with Tehran's so-called reformists. Then, too, the victim was the PMOI, which was labeled as terrorist. "President Khatami's government considered it a pretty big deal," he was quoted as saying, in November.

For years, Iran’s rulers made it clear that marginalizing the resistance was a strong sign of willingness to placate them. Western diplomats, in a search for illusory moderates within the clerical establishment, disgracefully acquiesced to the mullahs’ demands to blacklist the resistance in return for lucrative commerce. But the moderate fantasy completely ran aground when the regime's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, managed to propel the election Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a diehard revolutionary guard commander and a Holocaust-denier, to presidency.

So what are the options now? As NCRI's President-elect Maryam Rajavi told 30,000 cheering supporters in Brussels earlier this month, appeasement has proven futile and a foreign war would be a recipe for disaster. The viable option, as she put it, was democratic change by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.

Ironically, the EU court ruling, coupled with the Security Council's sanction resolution, offers the West a face-saving way out of its policy statement vis-à-vis Tehran. The EU should simply abide by the Court ruling and the U.S. should review the terrorist labeling of the PMOI. Such a move would free up the focal point of the organized opposition to the regime in Tehran. This would encourage the Iranian people to step up their struggle, and strengthen the international community's position in dealing with the Tehran's nuclear defiance and efforts to destabilize Iraq.

General Douglas MacArthur who stood up to threat of fascism during World War II, once said: "There is no security on this earth, there is only opportunity."

Now is the time to grab the opportunity in dealing with Tehran’s tyrants to make the earth more secure.

"YOU'RE NOT ALONE" by Joanne Lowe

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

1 Peter 5: 8 - 11
King James Version

Last year in one of my writings, I mentioned that I have a pinball game that I play on my computer and if I take my eyes off the ball for one second then I lose the ball. I wrote about it; I know it; yet I continue to take my eyes off the ball. I allow myself to become distracted. We do the same thing with satan. We allow him to distract us from serving Jesus and spreading the good news of a risen Saviour.

Jesus has told us to stay on the alert because satan is seeking those whom he can devour. We forget to keep our guard up against the sneaky tactics of satan. All too often we take our eyes off of Jesus and put them on our circumstances and then satan attacks us with doubts, discouragement, hopelessness and depression. There is one consolation in these attacks. We are not alone because satan attacks everyone in some way with his deception and lies.

Instead of relying on Jesus to bring us through the situations victoriously we try to fix things ourselves. It doesn't work and it will never work. Only Jesus can take the fragmented pieces of our hearts and lives and put them together again. Sometimes it feels like nobody else understands our pain and heartaches but one thing is certain, Jesus understands how we feel and how much it hurts. He endured pain, agony and a horror that you and I will never know. He knows what it is like to be all alone. I believe the reason Jesus has told us that He will never leave us or forsake us is because He desperately wanted them to watch and pray with Him but they didn't; they fell asleep and once again He was totally alone in His pain and agony. Even today, I am sure that there are times when He feels alone. He has told us to pray for each other, to encourage each other and to love each other unconditionally yet many times we fail Him in this area of our lives.

No, you're not alone. Jesus is with you all the time and He really does love you, so much that He died for you. If you have never admitted that you're a sinner and asked Jesus to forgive you and cleanse you in His atoning blood that He shed sacrificially on the cross, I urge you, I plead with you to do it now. Do it even as you read this as you may not have another hour on this earth. Don't miss out on spending eternity with Jesus!
